Day 189 2 Kings 15; 2 Chron 26

On Monday I kind of gave a little recap of what we are all reading here.  Don’t get concerned if your head is spinning with names and deaths, look at the big picture.   God gave us the laws because He loves us and wants to protect us.  God gave us these laws not as boundaries in our life but as a way to live a wonderful peaceful life.  Live inside these boundaries and you will…..live outside these boundaries and this will happen.  Simple Enough? Well, what is the first commandment?

“You shall have no other gods before  me.

Let me give you something to think about this week.  Fill in the blank. “The one thing I don’t want to live without is_________ in my life”.  Anything that you put in that blank that was on your list before the Lordwas put there is a god in our life.  Something else we worship.  You may have put children, husband, money, football (oh yeah, Todd’s not on the blog any more) family, money, TV, sunshine, my pets, my retirement plan, friends, boat, good times, my home….ANYTHING that came to your mind before the Lord is a god!  And you are worshipping that god in the high places, and we need to take it down, before He takes it down for us.  He will take away the things of our life that we put between us and Him.  It is because He loves us that much.

Back to the Bible.  As if these names where not crazy enough some people are referred to as 2 names.  Azariah is also Uzziah.  Note that because we will read about him again. Tiglath-Pileser is also called Pul.  And just a quick note, I saw the name Hoshea.  Jot down that Hoshea is Israel’s last King.  SO you know we are near Israel’s destruction.

When I read today I felt like I was reading the New York Times, political section.  We could replace these leaders names from B.C. of the names of today.  While this country is replacing leader after leader after leader, none of them is instituting the ways God intended for the world.  And while we are self destructing, nations around us that are evil and pagan are rising up in power all around us.  I was reminded today of Chris Leggert.  His family deeply in my prayers.

The Chronicles reading was a self application that needs to interpretation.  If you didn’t get it, then you need to reread the Proverbs,  The Lord hates Pride.  Everything we have is from the Lord.  Everything.  Maybe we should start living that way.

Sorry, weird mood today.

Once again, thank you for all your research with this and prayer over this. This time last year I would’ve given up confused and lost. Thank you so much for the hint of people being called by two different names!

What kept hitting me during today’s reading was “his mother was…” Then I thought of the following Proverbs that say

Prov 1:8 “do not forsake your mother’s teaching”
Prov 1:20 “My son, keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”
Prov 29:15 “The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.”
Prov 30:17 “The eye that mocks a father, that scorns obedience to a mother…”

As mothers, God gave us a very important role. They do what we teach them! They become who we make them! We have a lot of power over our children that we can use for good or bad. Our goal should be to make God-fearing, responsible adults. We have a lot of responsibility and we need to take it seriously.

    Getting off high horse now…

In talking today with one of my mentors, I was reminded that it isn’t all about us as parents–we do our best but they have free will….good kings had bad sons and bad kings had good sons….

    Noticed Isaiah today….

Your worship question is a tough one!

I get what you are saying and it is TRUE but I too feel like God is pressing on me a lot about the kings. I feel like he is saying, the apple never falls far from the tree. There are rare cases, I mean look at momma ro…she is a nut case, and I am so planted! (just kidding) But I do think that a lot of the Kigs message is, our kids will worship what we worship.

I am actually more in agreement with your view, just think the other side is interesting as well….they watch us and are mini us…is that good or bad….sometimes both and I work on that….but try not to stress to much (i.e. put too much pressure on me b/c I can’t be this perfect person–no matter how hard I try–ha ha) trying to let go…and let God….he is way better than me….ahhhhhh now if I can just do it all the time!

I am 100% with you on the “what we worship, they will worship”…..I am so careful–especially with girls to not talk about weight or clothes…the superfical things that DO NOT matter….they do focus on what we focus on….what a blessing to have my 4 year old say, “Mommy, have you read your Bible tonight?”….they hear all and see all!!!
